Renewal Date: Every 4 years

Hours required: 45 hours

  • CA Brokers and Salespersons who were licensed ON OR AFTER 10/1/2007 must complete 45 hours for DRE approved CE courses consisting of Ethics, Agency, Trust Fund Handling, Fair Housing, and Risk Management AND a minimum of 18 clock hours of consumer protection courses AND 12 hours of CE courses related to either consumer service or consumer protection.
  • CA Salespersons who were licensed PRIOR to 10/1/2007 and are renewing an original license for the first time must complete 5 separate 3 hour DRE approved CE courses in Ethics, Agency, Trust Fund Handling, Fair Housing, and Risk Management, for a total of 15 mandatory hours.

CE Shop Offering: 45 hours

Seat time: There is a state requirement that a licensee must spend 50 minutes for every hour the course is approved fo in the course. The course timing mechanism will keep track of your course time.

ReportingThe state does not have schools report CE hours.

Expiration date of course: Courses expire one year after the order date. 

Post Licensing: CA Salespersons who were licensed PRIOR to 10/1/2007 and are renewing an original license for the first time must complete 5 separate 3 hour DRE approved CE courses in Ethics, Agency, Trust Fund Handling, Fair Housing, and Risk Management, for a total of 15 mandatory hours.

Final Exams:  CA DRE requires online courses to have a timing mechanism. In addition, licensees will be allotted 1 minute per question on the final exam at the end of the course. A licensee has two (2) attempts on the final exam. If the exam is not passed the second time, the licensee must repurchase and retake the entire course, including the final exam. Passing score is 75%.

Certificates:  Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five (5) years, should you need additional copies at a later time.  Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate(s) of Completion with your renewal.
